Alpendorf in Winter Season

 

 

Our apartment is on the doorstep of a winter wonderland. A 50 metre walk is all it takes for a speedy route onto the pistes – walk down the hill, snap on your skis (or board) and a gentle slope takes you to a high speed 6 man chairlift. For a warmer climb or too break yourself in more gently, try the high speed gondola (Alpendorf Bergbahn) – just 250m from the apartment.

Alpendorf has wonderfully groomed, diverse slopes. The resort’s pistes range from simple beginners slopes to a variety of red runs as well as some more challenging stuff.

 

Alpendorf is your gateway to the Salzburger Sportwelt, a fantastic ski area in the wider Ski Amadé region boasting over 860km of impeccable slopes and 270 top modern ski lifts and cable cars and altitudes up to 2,700m. You can ski it all with just one pass.

The "Salzburger Sportwelt" comprises the eight resorts of Alpendorf, Wagrain, Flachau, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Kleinarl, Eben and Filzmoos. People with a passion for skiing know there's no place quite like the "Salzburger Sportwelt".

 

Beware: there are so many pistes it’s impossible to be able to ski them all in one visit, but you can have fun trying!

 

Try skiing Alpendorf to Wagrain to Flachau, or Alpendorf to Kleinarl and then on to Zauchensee and you won't be disappointed. The pistes are wide and the views are great. The mountain bars are plentiful and you won't need a second mortgage to eat and drink on the slopes.

Austria is a global superpower in skiing and this region boasts more than its fair share of skiing legends, being the birthplace of skiing Olympic and World champions Hermann Maier and Michael Walchhofer.

The village of Alpendorf leaves you spoilt for choice. There are 3 professional and child friendly ski and snowboard schools (Rot-Weiss-Rot, Alpendorf ski school, Toni Gruber ski school) and even a mini club for children as young as 1!

The weather systems come in from all angles. Generally speaking, weather from the north, and especially from the northwest, brings cold and snowy conditions. Weather from the east can bring snow, while anything straight from the south can bring snow as well. This unique set-up basically means there's always snow to be found. If mother nature needs a helping hand, Alpendorf can also call on its powerful snow making facilities.

Sankt Johann-Alpendorf is a well-known hotspot among the Austrian and international snowboarding community.
